Recent movies and upsurging psychological disorders could lead to recent escalating suicide cases in the country. These romantic movies mostly are of foreign origin which does not match the traditions and norms of the African society.
Speaking on Homebase TV 's magazine morning programme dubbed (Eboboba) today, The Deputy National Organizer of the opposition (NDC), Mahdi Mohammed Gibrill linked romantic movies and psychological disorders as part of factors causing suicide.
According to Mahdi, most people have been misled by these movies and jilt causing most of the suicide cases of late adding that when suicidal movies in relation to jilt are shown people of weak psychology try to put themselves in the same situation thinking the best is to end it all, forgetting that the stories are not real.
“We don’t have to agree with the desire to die with the cliché that, you end all you problems” he stated.
Biological abnormalities like organic brain disease, medication reactions, or severe thyroid problems can make someone feel inexplicably suicidal. Problems like these have straightforward answers, and so proper diagnosis is vitally important he stressed.
Advising the youth he said," ending your life is not an answer or remedy to ones problem but confiding in someone for advise".
Social Media for the last few weeks has disseminated a lot of cases related to suicide which has really caused fear and panic. There is a certain kind of thinking that fuels suicide, and for most of the youth finds it very difficult to look for the diagnoses .
In the mind of victims, suicide act seems like an expeditious and effective way to eliminate pain harbored in the heart.
Mr Mahdi said victims may mistakenly perceive suicide as the only way to end their pain arguing that this can increase a person’s resolve to commit suicide.
